7 Crystals to help you deal with anxiety and stress

Let's face it—January hasn't even ended yet and it's already been one hell of a ride. Capricorn season has been particularly tough this year for all of us, so it's easy to feel anxious and stressed this early on.

When you just don't have the time to meditate or get enough sleep (or you're too busy dodging the Wuhan coronavirus or the ashfall from Taal), having some of these crystals in your bag can help you bring some peace of mind to fight another day.

Blue lace agate

Blue lace agate is arguably a staple crystal for those who often deal with anxiety and stress. Just looking at this lovely shade of blue is already calming in itself! Its flowy pattern is akin to the slow waves of the sea, beckoning us to close our eyes and take a breather. It is associated with the throat chakra, allowing us to communicate with others in a clear, gentle manner. This is great to have in a place like your desk at the office, where a lot of our daily stresses come from.

No crystal collection is complete without amethyst, which is known for its sleep-enhancing properties. Connected with the crown and third-eye chakra, it helps bring clarity to the mind and allows us to take a step back and see the bigger picture calmly, which can be difficult when we are angry or confused. Place this on the forehead for stress-induced headaches.

Black tourmaline

Anxiety can oftentimes cripple us with fear, and this is where black tourmaline comes in to the rescue. This guy may not be as shiny as the others, but its this blackness that neutralizes any negative energy we may be carrying with us. Black tourmaline will absorb all the bad juju but will not dispel it unless cleansed, so don't forget to purify it from time to time.

Lepidolite is made from lithium, which is used in medication for anxiety, mood disorders, and depression. It relaxes an overactive mind and stabilizes mood, and can be placed under your pillow if you have trouble sleeping. For some, it can even be used to enter a lucid state while dreaming. If you feel a panic attack coming, place one in each hand while taking deep breaths.

Rose quartz

Rose quartz is known more to promote self-love, but sometimes, that's exactly all we need to take better care of ourselves—whether it's learning to step away from toxic friends or situations, or simply indulging in a self-care beauty routine. The rose quartz reminds us to unwind and take it easy, because sometimes we're all we've got for ourselves.

Angelite is said to connect us with the angels, reminding us that we are not alone and that a higher power is watching over us. This can be held during prayer or meditation to help soothe away worries when we are stressed or suffering.

This multicolored crystal is also called the "rainbow keeper", promoting balance and harmony to allow us to make calm, focused decisions. It is made up of quartz and calcite, which is known for its strong, purifying effects. For healing and rejuvenating both the mind and body, fluorite is an excellent choice to cleanse yourself of stress.

Whether you prefer your crystals as stones or as jewelry, feel free to combine and mix them together, depending on your needs. They're no different from vitamins; we need a daily dosage—just don't eat them!
